One of the biggest struggles for an SEO company is finding new SEO clients. While all SEO experts are of the opinion that every website in the world should invest in SEO, the percentage of website owners do is quite small. Given that many websites are not even monetized, this makes sense. But what about all those websites that are monetized and not doing SEO? Shouldn’t they all sign up?
If you are an SEO expert looking for new clients, then you might think there are millions of potential customers out there for you. And you are right. Sort of.
Not every business owner is going to be a willing participant in SEO. Why not? Well, for one, not every business owner has the budget for it. There are also many business owners who don’t see the value in it (even after you show them the numbers). They don’t want to pay for something they don’t understand. They would rather put thousands into Yellow Pages Ads and other venues. They might not get the phone calls as a result, but at least they can see the ad and know exactly what they paid for.
If you are trying to get new SEO clients, there are many different things you might consider doing. Here are a few ideas:
1. Get your SEO website ranked at the top. This is the best way to get new clients. If you are at the top, then you are already proving to your potential customers that you are the best. They should invest in you. Of course, the only obstacle here is that you have to outrank all of the other companies whose job it is to get ranked.
2. Ask your existing clients for referrals. Referrals are one of the best ways to generate new leads that will actually convert. There’s no doubt that referrals will sign up more frequently than any other type of lead. In order to improve your number of referrals, offer bonuses. Tell your existing clients that they will get a percentage off the next month when they refer a client who signs up. Make the percentage worthwhile. Your clients aren’t going to bend over backwards to bring you new customers if you are only offering a 10% discount.
3. Look for people who need services. This can be done in a few ways. First, you can check venues like Craisglist. Look for people who need SEO (check the gigs section of each major city). One thing you need to be aware of: every SEO ad on Craigslist will generate dozens of responses. You need to do something to make your services stand out.
4. Network. Make connections with everyone you can. Get your name out there. Make people aware of what SEO is and how it will help them.
The best ways to get new SEO customers are to make them come to you. Other ways of trying to get new SEO customers will be less likely to work. Cold calling, walk-ins, and emails will more than likely just result in some angry and cold responses. No one wants to be told how to run their business, and no one wants to talk to you unless they want to talk to you. However, if you are really good on the phone, you might be able to get a few customers out of every few hundred you call. Given the success rates you will probably have on Craigslist, that really isn’t that bad.
